It’s great to learn from others, in fact it’s essential. It’s also wonderful to be able to use others as sources of inspiration for your own personal life story. But there is a difference between being inspired by someone to make positive changes in your life, and feeling competitive towards someone as if you aren’t good enough until you are better than they are.
If the basis of your self-esteem comes from feeling as if others are beneath you, then you might want to deeply consider what that means for yourself. Likewise if your lack of self-esteem comes from feeling as if you aren’t good enough because others are superior to you, then there is room for improvement as well.
Here’s a secret- we can all be great. Everyone can be happy, prosperous, and productive without the foundation of that being suffering, lack, and misery for others. If that seems out of touch with reality, then perhaps there is room to find your consciousness, and raise it.
To put it simply, stop comparing yourself to others. If comparisons must be made, then why not compare yourself to yourself.
- How much have you grown?
- What are you doing well?
- What would you like to improve on?
That is what we should be focused on because that is what we can control. You can’t control others, you don’t walk in their shoes, you don’t have their frame of reference, and you aren’t living their life experience. But you can control yourself. You pick the shoes you wear daily. Your frame of reference is where your perception comes from, and you are living your life experience.
The bottom line is that it’s time to focus on the internal. If you don’t even feel in control of what is going on inside of you then I’m not sure why you’d feel qualified to have thoughts of being able to control anything that deals with the external.
Doesn’t that make sense?
